One of the wounded has died so it's 13 dead and 30 wounded. A very sad day.

As it turns out, the first report that the shooter had been killed is wrong (Don't blame the media for getting this wrong because it was the Army representative at the scene who said that the shooter had been killed). So, it's now back to the original 12 dead and 31 wounded.

This is a terrible thing. More news coming out that they suspected something about this major years ago. Wish they would have paid more attention.

Very sad indeed, I was stationed at Ft. Hood and live about an hour away. My brother and his family still live there. My sister in law is a nurse at Scott & White hospital where some of the victims are being treated. It does bring up some terrible memories for the surrounding area about the Luby's Massacre there, hard to believe that was 18 years ago.

God speed to all of the victims and their families.

Sorry to get all political here, but I put all the blame on the Bush, Obama and the US government. We never should have been in that god forsaken hellhole called Iraq and this is the direct result of an unjustified war.

Really!! No Respect.

This is a direct result in a dumb ass that could not deal with some heat. It is neither Bush,Obama's or the Government's fault. It is his. Do not disrespect the fallen, by pushing your bullshit political agenda because of it.

Yes I was there myself for some time ago when I first enlisted. The best man at my wedding is stationed there now. I told my wife this settles it. I am bored on the sidelines. I am going back in.

No one is to blame but the nut job. If it wasn't Irau, it would have been Afghanistan and if not there, it would have been somewhere else. If you join the military, you better be prepared to go anywhere so if that bothers you then don't join. I have no sympathy for the guy and only blame him for what happened.

Sorry but I call em like I see em - I feel bad for the victims and their families, but no war = no shootings. Neither one should have happened.

You might but in the end it is disrespectful and distasteful.

I know you call them like you see them but, you are wrong like I would say 98% of the time. Blaming the Government is the stupid train of thought I think I have ever heard. It is like blaming the traffic light that you did not stop at and got a ticket.

Blaming MCDonalds because your coffee was served too hot. Blaming the Budweiser because you got behind a wheel of a car and got a DUI.

Blaming your Dealer because you got popped with a Ounce.

It is ridiculously stupid.

That is all you Liberals can do is place blame on other people. How about placing blame where it belongs. The scum bag that did it.

Are you going to shoot up somewhere because you do not agree with the war? Of course not.

Good point - the guy pulling the trigger is responsible for his own actions. But who's responsible for harassing him just for being a Muslim? Who's responsible for the US invading Iraq? (hint: It wasn't Bin Laden or plane hijackers). If all those stupid situations never happened, the shootings would not happen.

People take things way too seriously these days - just take the school shootings for example. Back in the day, if someone got picked on in school, a fist fight would settle it. These days they settle their differences with guns. I'll say one thing - if I was still in high school I would remember that and not pick on the kid in the black trenchcoat. Likewise if I was in the military, I wouldn't give the Muslims a hard time. Mostly out of human decency and respect but that's just me. So yes, I blame the shooter first for the actions, then the government, media, etc for the cause and effect of this situation.

That is what is family are saying. I doubt he was getting harassed for being a Muslim. Not saying it did not happen. I am just saying I doubt it. I have served with Muslims in the past after 9/11 and have not witnessed with my own eyes something to that accord.

I am telling you now this is problem what happen. I have saw this sort of thing before from Doctors stationed at a CASH(You guys might know them as MASH units) unit. Minus
the Insanity of course.

Doc makes a deal either through ROTC or what have you for the Military to pay for MED school. All of it. They are happy at least for the time being because they do not have 100,0000's of dollars of debt, but they do have at least a 20 year commitment. Some even have Indefinite Enlistments.

They are faced with the possibility of going to war. They have spent more time in school then learning to become a Solider. Now they are faced with two possibility.

1. Get out of the Armed services, but that comes with a price. They now owe the Military all that money that they paid for their schooling. Every cent. No pro-rating it. So you can get out but all the sudden you need to come up with 100,0000's of dollars.

2. Go do what you need to do and shut up. They do not owe any money and get a rather nice pay check in the process. They signed their name and made the deal. Nobody forced them. They should have thought about what they were getting into.

He was not combat Arms. He would have had people such as myself protecting him. He would have lived a relativity fine life over there. Just would have to deal with some heat from time to time. Chances are he would have went over and never encountered one round. Not one bullet and if he did. There would have been people a lot better trained them him to deal with it.

He is a coward. He is scum and he deserves to get killed in a horrific manor. I take solace in the fact that he will do some of the hardest time known to man.

The fact that we Invaded Iraq and you agree with it or not is irrelevant at this moment. That is left for another thread. We have also done some good there. School's power grids, plumbing some of which has not been active for many many years.

Officials: U.S. Army Told of Hasan's Contacts with al Qaeda
Army Major in Fort Hood Massacre Used 'Electronic Means' to Connect with Terrorists
By RICHARD ESPOSITO, MATTHEW COLE and BRIAN ROSS
Nov. 9, 2009

U.S. intelligence agencies were aware months ago that Army Major Nidal Malik Hasan was attempting to make contact with people associated with al Qaeda, two American officials briefed on classified material in the case told ABC News.
Share
Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan tried to make contact with people linked to al Qaeda.

It is not known whether the intelligence agencies informed the Army that one of its officers was seeking to connect with suspected al Qaeda figures, the officials said.

Rep. Peter Hoekstra (R-MI), the ranking Republican on the House Intelligence Committee, said that he requested the CIA and other intelligence agencies brief the committee on what was known, if anything, about Hasan by the U.S. intelligence community, only to be refused.

In response, Hoekstra issued a document preservation request to four intelligence agencies. The letter, dated November 7th, was sent to directors Dennis Blair (DNI), Robert Mueller (FBI), Lt. Gen Keith Alexander (NSA) and Leon Panetta (CIA).

Hoekstra said he is "absolutely furious" that the house intel committee has been refused an intelligence briefing by the DNI or CIA on Hasan's attempt to reach out to al Qaeda, as first reported by ABC News.

"This is a law enforcement investigation, in which other agencies—not the CIA—have the lead," CIA spokesman Paul Gimigliano said in a response to ABC News. " Any suggestion that the CIA refused to brief Congress is incorrect."

Investigators want to know if Hasan maintained contact with a radical mosque leader from Virginia, Anwar al Awlaki, who now lives in Yemen and runs a web site that promotes jihad around the world against the U.S.

In a blog posting early Monday titled "Nidal Hassan Did the Right Thing," Awlaki calls Hasan a "hero" and a "man of conscience who could not bear living the contradiction of being a Muslim and serving in an army that is fighting against his own people."

According to his site, Awlaki served as an imam in Denver, San Diego and Falls Church, Virginia.

The Associated Press reported Sunday that Major Hasan attended the Falls Church mosque when Awlaki was there.

The Telegraph of London reported that Awlaki had made contact with two of the 9/11 hijackers when he was in San Diego.

He denied any knowledge of the hijacking plot and was never charged with any crime. After an intensive investigation by the FBI , Awlaki moved to Yemen.

People who knew or worked with Hasan say he seemed to have gradually become more radical in his disapproval of the war in Iraq and Afghanistan.

On Sunday, Sen. Joseph Lieberman (D-CT) called for an investigation into whether the Army missed signs as to whether Hasan was an Islamic extremist.

"If Hasan was showing signs, saying to people that he had become an Islamist extremist, the U.S. Army has to have a zero tolerance," Lieberman told Fox News Sunday.
